The HOPE society launched a ‘Book Drive’ collecting school stationery to a less privileged school in Horana (WP/HO/Sri Siddhartha Kanishata Vidyalaya). The school has classes from Grade 1-11 only and has approximately 100 children. With the generous contributions of our school community we were able to make packs of books for each student that included CR books, pens, pencils, crayons and geometry sets (for the older students). We were also able to find a generous donor who chooses to remain anonymous, and therefore were able to purchase colourful and durable cloth bags for each student. The bags were made by a young and struggling mom/entrepreneur and HOPE society appreciates the opportunity they had to help a small business as well. The books were to be delivered before the Sinhala Avurudhu break, and therefore the KS3 Sinhala classes produced lovely handmade gift cards to go in the bags. Due to the prevailing situation of the country, and school closures etc. we were only able to deliver them by Vesak, spreading the message of giving and loving kindness to all.
HOPE society thanks everyone who contributed in some way towards making this project successful. May we always have a way to rise by lifting others. May we have the opportunity to give, even if we have very little.
Thank you!
