SPORTS REPORT

Sports not only builds better athletes but it builds better people’

Julie Foudy

For me, one of the prominent features of our BSC students is their passion for sport and their willingness to participate and commit, as a result we are able to field teams for all sports This is a remarkable achievement and regardless of the results, the benefits for our students is enormous.

‘Sport can teach values such as fairness, teambuilding, equality, discipline, inclusion, perseverance and respect. Sport has the power to provide a framework for learning values, thus contributing to the development of soft skills needed for responsible citizenship’.

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” – Albert Einstein

Recently we have been involved in TISSL boys football and TISSL and National cricket at different age groups.

Football Under 14 and Under 18 Football Tournament.

Overall, our teams displayed excellent sportsmanship, and the spirit of the game was upheld throughout. We appreciate the support from the parents and the opportunity for our students to participate in such coetitive events.

Results Under 14 boys

  • BSC v Lyceum Nugegoda, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
  • BSC v Royal Institute, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
  • BSC v Stafford resulting in a 4-0 win for BSC.

The boys narrowly missed out on progressing to the quarter finals but can be proud if their efforts and conducted themselves well throughout.

Results Under 18 Boys

  • BSC v Lyceum Wattala, resulting in a 1-0 win for BSC1-0
  • The team achieved a remarkable 7-0 victory against Lyceum Rathnapura.

The Quarterfinals against Stafford ended in a loss through penalty shootouts.  Despite the setback, all the boys performed admirably, and I know they will reflect, improve, and move forward.

Coach Prasanna

Cricket

Our under 13 cricket team did well in the National School tournament.  They progressed though a tough and demanding group to the final stages where they narrowly lost to St Josephs college.  The U15’s also progressed to the final stages and gave Lyceum a tough test in the quarter finals.  Our Cricket continues to develop, and we are becoming consistent high level competitors.

Coach Aruna

We wish all our participants and teams the very best of luck for the upcoming tournaments and I am confident that they will once again represent BSC excellently demonstrating all those values that are so important, respect, integrity, effort and knowing how to win graciously and be humble in defeat.

Thank you for your continued support with school sport.

Sean Connolly

Director of Sport
